Undergoing fertility treatment is often compared to a roller-coaster. Just like the ride, there can be highs and lows; it can be over before you know it or you may need to take a couple of loops. Aware of this emotional and physical journey, it’s good to think about what you can do to lessen the stress, especially as most people juggle treatment alongside an already busy life.
One of the most simple, yet important considerations is your commute. Taking time to ponder this upfront will save you hours or days of stress later.
You may already know, or you soon will, but IVF isn’t a matter of one or two appointments. Successful treatment requires close monitoring, including multiple blood tests, injections and ultrasound scans before egg collection. Once referred by a GP, you will visit your IVF clinic between eight and ten times. At stages of the treatment, these appointments may be only a day or two apart.
Travel can compound the stress of undergoing IVF. Home to the M42, M40 and M5, with or without snow; you could find yourself late for work after an early clinic appointment, or running late for a clinic appointment. Although there is no conclusive study to say that increased stress reduces the success rate of IVF treatment, why put yourself through the ordeal needlessly?
Travel time is so significant; The Fertility Partnership invested and opened Warwickshire Fertility at The Stratford Clinic in Stratford-upon-Avon, to help couples across Warwickshire overcome this very problem. We know it doesn’t take away all of the stresses of IVF, but it may mean you can make appointments with less disruption to your life and fewer hours on the road.
